sul ponticello and sul tasto

Sul ponticello (Italian for 'on the bridge') is an instruction for stringed instruments to be sounded close to, or even on, the bridge, producing a brittle, glassy sound.

Sul tasto (Italian for 'on the fingerboard') is an instruction for the instrument to be sounded over the fingerboard, producing a light, flute-like sound.
