Bouncing is a process that is used in multitrack recording in order to free up tracks. Multitrack recording is the recording onto special tape that has many (4, 8, or 16) channels or tracks. When several of these tracks are recorded they can be mixed onto a single track of the same tape thus leaving those tracks free to be recorded over for more layers.
